Peter Berkowitz
Peter Berkowitz is presently a staff attorney at Massachusetts Correctional Legal Services primarily litigating prison guard brutality cases.
Previously, for over 20 years, Mr. Berkowitz was a sole practitioner in Puerto Rico specializing in police misconduct litigation and criminal defense in the federal court. He also served for a time as an adjunct professor at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law where he taught Federal Trial Practice. He is a graduate of New York University (1972).
Among the many police misconduct cases litigated by Berkowitz, Gutierrez-Rodriguez v. Cartagena stands out as one of the seminal cases on supervisory responsibility.
