Ronald E. Hampton
Ronald E. Hampton served on the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police
Department after twenty-three years as a Community Police Officer.
He is well-known for his outstanding work with the citizens of Washington,
DC and the Third Police District in crime prevention, community participation,
and community relations.
Currently, Hampton serves as the Executive Director of the National
Black Police Association, Inc. Additionally, he is involved
in designing and delivering community policing and problem solving
training to public housing residents. Hampton also oversees
the Community Monitor Project.
Hampton led a People to People Citizens Ambassador Program Law Enforcement
Delegation to South Africa. During the two-week study-exchange
visit, Hampton met with law enforcement officers, administrators,
and commanders, including the Commissioner of the South African Police
Service, to exchange ideas.
In the past, Hampton has worked as a consultant-educator for the
Department of Justice Community Relations Service, and the Cater
Centre of Emory University Human Rights Program. He has also
lectured at the American University’s Washington Semester School
Criminal Justice Program. Hampton has served on the Federal
Board of the Drug Policy Foundation’s Law Enforcement Committee,
the Board of the DC/NCA, the Board of the American Civil Liberties
Union, and the Board of Amnesty International, USA. Currently,
he is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored Peoples, Citizens for the Rehabilitation of Errands and the
National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
