Janine L. Hoft
Janine L. Hoft is a partner at the Peoples Law Office, a law partnership
established in 1969 after the murders of Black Panther activists
Fred Hampton and Mark Clark. Throughout its thirty year history,
the office has confronted police brutality, torture, and prosecutorial
misconduct; represented political activists; advocated for prisoners;
fought against the death penalty; and provided legal support to Puerto
Rican and other political prisoners. Today, the Peoples Law
Office remains committed to representing victims of civil rights
violations.
Hoft attended Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota and received
her Juris Doctorate from the Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago
Kent College of Law. Since 1984, Attorney Hoft has worked with
the Peoples Law Office continuously except for a three year sabbatical. During
her sabbatical, she worked as a law professor and directed the Public
Interest Law Firm, a clinical program of the Syracuse University
College of Law.
Hoft has represented numerous survivors of sexual abuse in civil
suits against their perpetrators. Currently, she concentrates
in the areas of civil rights and employment discrimination law.
