Bronx Jury Returns $8.1 Million Verdict Against NYC Department of Corrections for 1996 Wrongful Death at Rikers

NPAP member Paul Thomas Layton represented the decedent along with Richard J. Katz and Michael J. Kuharski.  Decedent, who was 20 years old and had two children at the time of his death in 1996, died when DOC personell failed to provide a timely response when decedent complained of chest pain during the World Series.

Wrongful Death Pepperspray Case Settles for $4 Million

The widow of an Ohio man who died after being repeatedly pepper sprayed in a southwest Florida Lee County Jail in Ft. Myers last week settled her wrongful death lawsuit against the county's sheriff, the jail's medical provider (Prison Health Services, now known as Corizon), and several deputies and nurses. The settlement on the eve of trial was $4 million.
